NoEnder Peter Merholz announces a special 20% discount for the upcoming Adaptive Path User Experience Design workshops! To get the lower rate, use the promotional code FOPM ("Friends of Peter Merholz"). So, instead of paying the normal price of $1,195 (which, at $400/day, is comparably a good deal for such events you'll only have to pay $956 (around $320/day).

ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS
The first two days, the Adaptive Path folks will be presenting a method for addressing the complete user experience, from requirements gathering to user research to problem definition to design and specification. It's pretty damn thorough. We've heard from past attendees that they were grateful for seeing a coherent and cohesive process that sensibly put together all the elements of user-centered information architecture that they'd heard about, but never seen coordinated.

The third day of the workshops are particularly keen. On that day, a web design expert local to each city will give a workshop on a particular aspect of user experience design. Folks will get to learn from a member of their community issues relevant to the problems they're facing. (The local experts' talks are detailed in the links above.)

NoEnder Jay Bain points out this interesting new site designed to help Web people in business networking. Ryze lets you meet other people in the high-tech, finance and digital media industries and develop long-term business relationships with them. On Ryze, each member has a profile page where they list a bit of info on themselves, such as their interests and previous companies, and also put in links to their friends. Members can contact other members by sending a private message (e-mail addresses are not publicly-listed on a member's page), or by leaving a note in a guestbook area on each page. Members can also see lists of events that various groups are organizing, and make plans to meet people through real-life encounters.

NoEnder Christopher Schmitt announces a couple of articles recently published at A List Apart.

Titled Accessibility & Authoring Tools, this first article deals with the change of focus from standards compliant browsers to the tools that developers use and the education of standards.

Published along with his article is a how-to by Carrie Bickner about modifying Dreamweaver 4 to automagically spit out XHTML. It's a great practical guide.

Every once in a while I discover a new artist or CD that rocks my world. The latest CD I've been playing round the clock is by an English producer that goes by the name of "Bonobo". Bonobo is a species of pygmy chimpanzee known for its sexual promiscuity, but also a guy from Brighton named Simon Green. His debut album is called Animal Magic and provides some seriously cool downtempo listening. Go and buy this album now.
