Volkswagen's 2009 Jetta TDI utilizes "Bluetec" technology which allows the diesel engine to comply with extremely stringent new diesel pollution regulations in states like California. The Jetta TDI delivers fantastic fuel mileage and performance, and the ability to use biodiesel made from soybeans and other vegetable oils makes this vehicle a particularly green alternative to expensive oil imports. For 2009 Volkswagen is once again offering the TDI diesel and this time drivers in all 50 states can buy one.

VW Jetta TDI Bluetec User Reviews
  • "I have just under 8,000 miles on my 2009 Jetta TDI and I totally enjoy driving it. It has more pep than the gas version of this car, so no more S-L-O-W diesels!

I have the 6 speed automatic and my fuel economy has been between 38 and 41 MPG per tankful. I've found that in cold weather driving, it tends to get worse mileage than in warmer temperatures. That is if you can say that 38MPG is bad!

If I had to complain about the car is that it has too much torque starting from a stop. I can spin the front wheels very easy with this car. When I was a kid, I'd have loved to do that, but now that I am an old-timer, that desire has subsided considerably. That said, when I start from a stop, I have to be really gentle on the accelerator, but I don't have any worry about pulling out into traffic. In 1971, I bought a new Super Beatle and I was very afraid to pull out into traffic with that car (until I got a Holly Bug Spray carburetor and centrifugal advance distributer). Then it moved. Oh, yes, this was about the 2009 Jetta and not the 1971 Super Beatle!

I frequently drive from my home in PA to the metro DC area and I totally enjoy the Sirius Satellite radio and the optional Volk-L bluetooth option. I also have an iPhone and a Tom-Tom and finding places to place these for convenient use has been a bit of a problem. A company called Pro-Clip had the answer. They have a plastic device that attaches to the air conditioning vents that allow me to connect my iPhone (and charge it up as I drive) and a Tom-Tom shoe for easy access for directions.

If there is a wish list, it would be to add a few more creature comforts like fully powered seats and individual controls for air and heat. My wife and I are often at opposing ends about temperatures! Finally, I would like to see a little bigger center console too. Maybe I've just got too much stuff that I want to carry around!" - Bill B.
